Mt Damavand 1st Campsite Polur

Mount Damavand 1st camp is called Polur. This mountain resort is 2200 masl and is the best starting point for hiking trekking, mountaineering and skitouring to Damavand Mountain from the south face or the west trail. Polur complex resort is a shortcut to the summit and is an ideal place for accommodation and acclimatization in the area. Polour resort is made by Iran Mountaineering and Sport Climbing Federation (also called Mountain Climbing Federation of Iran) and it is administered by the same organization.

Mount Damavand Location

Damavand Mountain is situated 80 Km driving distances northeast of Tehran. It is located in the central part of the Alborz Mountains on the southern seashore of the Caspian Sea in the district of Mazandaran. In winter season snow covers Damavand and its peak is snow-capped several months a year. In spring and autumn only the upper parts are white. Ice and snow remain on Damavand Glaciers on the north face all the year. Damawand Volcano is an excellent symmetrical cone with a narrow summit. It looks like Mt Fuji (Fujiyama) in Japan. Damavand lies about 80 kilometers driving distance north east of capital city Tehran. This giant volcano and its beautiful cloud cap are the most fascinating sight of Iran mountains.

Mount Damavand Trekking Season
Damavand summer trekking season is from mid June to mid September. Usually in this length of time the South route ridge is free of snow, Damavand Weather is generally good and climbers may go up by 4WD cars as far as Damavand Base Camp, ( second camp or Goosfand-Sara).

Mountaineers with ordinary trekking experience are strongly advised to ascend this volcano only in this climbing season. Damavand mountain shelters are crowded during Iranian weekends and holidays. Best starting days is Saturday. Avoid trekking in Iranian weekends (Thursday and Friday).

Mnt Damawand is the Highest Volcano in Asia. This giant volcano is situated in the Alborz Mountains on the southern seashore of the Caspian Sea and is inclosed by many attractive mountains, valleys and forests. Damavand Volcano is 5,671 m, 18,605 ft high and it is also the highest summit in Iran and the second highest volcano in the northern hemisphere.
